Immigration Update Of Australia During This COVID-19 Pandemic

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, all the borders are closed worldwide, affecting so many people’s lives who are awaiting getting their visas approved. It is evident that the COVID-crisis has a major impact on visa applicants who are willing to move to Australia for whatever purpose.

Visa application

Currently, the Department of Home Affairs is processing visa applications for both temporary and permanent employer-sponsored visas. According to them, only the visa applications of people who are already residing in Australia will be focused on.

People who want to apply for Australia visa in Hamilton must have to wait longer because the application process is closed for them. However, the processing time of visa for applicants in Australia are way slower than usual.

Permanent residency

Onshore visa applications

Permanent residence applications via visa subclass 186 of the employer nomination scheme are getting processed. It is good news for people living in Australia because it will extend their stay here longer.

It is also suggested for people who are in Australia and eligible to apply for PR visa to do so. If it is granted, then it means you no longer have to be sponsored by your employer.

Offshore visa applications

People that are outside Australia cannot apply for visa currently because it is closed due to the pandemic situation. They have to wait longer to have their visa granted. In today’s scenario, it is not possible to say how long applicants have to wait because the situation is very uncertain.

Exemptions to a travel ban

Essential workers can apply for an exemption to the travel ban before flying. Upon getting permission, they can move to Australia; however, they must quarantine for at least 14 days after arriving in Australia. The application process is online. The concerned department is being very cautious and strict on this, and it is not ideal to think that anyone can be granted an exemption depending on their role.

People having 457 and 482 visas overseas have not been allowed to return to Australia when the travel ban was launched.
